More facts about pellet production

If you have biomass or other waste materials and want to turn them into pellet, what you need to consider are as follows:

- Type of biomass/waste

- Size distribution of biomass/waste

- Moisture content of biomass/waste

- Size (diameter, length) of final pellet that is suitable for you.

Type of biomass/waste

Different types of material result in different operating condition of pre-treatment and pelletizing unit. The fiber/Cellulose/Lignin content in the biomass/waste contribute highly to the strength of the final pellet and also easiness of the pelletization.

The best possible way is to consult the supplier for more details about the pelletization/pre-treatment of your raw material(s)/Biomass/Waste.

Sometimes the pre-treatment unit and other related units cost much more than the pelletizing unit, especially biomass/waste with high moisture content.

Types of biomass/waste that can be turned into pellet include wood dust (sawdust), rice husk, palm fiber, coconut peat, bagasse, corn/maize cob, waste from poultry, paper, fiber, plastic-paper waste, leaves, grass, straw, weed, etc.

Size distribution of biomass/waste

Size of biomass/waste which is suitable for pelletizing depends on type of those biomass/wastes. Softer material can be larger than those which is harder or higher in strength. Softer materials includes grass, rice paddy, coconut fiber peat, etc can be larger than 5-10 mm or bigger. Harder materials include sawdust, charcoal must be smaller than 2-4 mm. (should not exceed the diameter of final pellet).

Moisture content of biomass/waste

The suitable moisture content of the raw material for pelletizing is in range of 15-20%. Lower moisture content material can be adjusted by adding of water.

Size (diameter, length) of final pellet

Standard size (diameter, length) of pellet ranges from 6-8 mm. (diameter) and 20-30 mm. in length.

Most of the time, there will be some portion of fine material coming out with the pellet. If you need to remove this portion, then the sieving system is required.

Other requirement and related unit

Most of the time the other related unit, for example, conveying system, shredder, feeding unit, is needed for continuous operation and less manpower. However, this depends on total production capacity, type of biomass as mentioned above. Please contact us for more information. Because we are manufacturer and we produce all machines by ourselves. We are glad to help you on this.
